Commercial tumble dryers for care homes, hotels and laundries

In short: Technorette supplies new and workshop-refurbished commercial tumble dryers from Electrolux and Miele, from 6 kg on-premises models to 67 kg industrial tumble dryers. Choose vented electric, gas or heat pump according to your ducting, gas supply and energy costs. We deliver from the Netherlands to Great Britain and quote per machine.

When the only dryer in a care home laundry trips at seven in the morning, the washers keep going and the damp bedding piles up. What most buyers want is a dryer that fits the room, keeps pace with the washers and stops being the bottleneck.

We are an authorised Electrolux Professional dealer in the Netherlands and also supply Miele Professional dryers. Refurbished dryers come from our own workshop in Apeldoorn. For washer extractors and how we work with UK customers generally, see our commercial laundry equipment for UK businesses.

Vented, heat pump or gas: which commercial tumble dryer?

The heating method shapes installation and running costs more than the brand.

TypeHow it worksNeedsTypical fit
Vented electricElectric elements heat the air; moist air is ducted outsideExhaust duct, make-up air, 3-phase on larger sizesHotel and care home laundries with an outside wall
Gas-heated (vented)Gas burner heats the air; exhaust ducted outsideGas supply, Gas Safe engineer, duct, air supplySites with gas and larger volumes
Heat pumpDehumidifies the air in a closed loopNo duct; drain or tank; longer cyclesNo outside wall, or energy use matters most
Condenser (electric)Condenses moisture; no outside ductDrain or tank; room ventilationSalons, B&Bs, sports clubs

A heat pump dryer uses considerably less energy per cycle, but cycles are longer, so you may need more drum capacity for the same daily volume. Industrial tumble dryers from 20 kg upwards are mostly vented electric or gas; the Electrolux TD6 series is also available with steam heating.

Industrial tumble dryer sizing: matching your washers

Drying almost always takes longer than washing. Match dryers kilo for kilo to the washers and wet linen queues up in trolleys. What we check:

  • Residual moisture. A high-spin washer extractor leaves less water in the linen and shortens drying; an older low-spin washer puts far more load on the dryer.
  • Rated versus practical load. Ratings are often a range, such as 16.4–20 kg for the Electrolux TD6-20. Linen dries best when the drum is not packed full.
  • Daily kilos and staffed hours. We work back from those.
  • One large dryer or two smaller ones. With two, a breakdown halves your capacity rather than stopping it. Where linen must be back on beds the same day, that often decides it.

Most on-premises laundries plan for more dryer capacity than washer capacity, not less. Flatwork such as sheets can also go from the washer straight to one of our commercial ironers, which takes pressure off the dryers.

Ducting, gas and electrics: installing a commercial dryer in the UK

Exhaust ducting and make-up air

Vented dryers need an outside duct of the specified size: around 100 mm on a 12 kg myPROXL TE1220E, 315 mm on a TD6-45. Every bend and metre adds back pressure, so the installation manual sets the maximum run. Often forgotten is make-up air: the room must let in as much air as the dryer blows out. Without it, drying slows and, where gas appliances share the room, combustion gases can be drawn back in. A shared duct must be sized for all dryers on it.

Gas-heated dryers

Gas dryers must be connected and commissioned by a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for commercial appliances. Much of the Dutch network supplies a different gas quality from UK natural gas (G20), so tell us the gas type and pressure at your site; the dryer is set up for it and your engineer checks this at commissioning.

Electrical supply

8 kg dryers such as the myPRO TE1120 run on 230 V single phase; larger and industrial tumble dryers usually need 3-phase 400 V, connected by a qualified electrician to BS 7671. You get the data sheet before you order.

Fire safety and lint: what care homes should plan for

Tumble dryers are a recognised fire risk in commercial laundries, and care homes are no exception given the linen they process. Your fire risk assessment, under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales or the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005, should cover the laundry. In practice:

  • Lint. Clean the lint filter as the manufacturer instructs and have the duct cleaned at regular intervals.
  • Oils and creams. Linen with emollient creams, massage oils or cooking oil can self-heat if piled up hot. Let the cool-down phase finish and do not leave hot linen stacked.
  • Unattended running. Decide whether dryers may run with no staff in the laundry.
  • Clearances. Keep the area behind and around the dryer free of storage.

General points only; your fire risk assessor decides what applies to your premises.

Running costs at UK energy prices

UK business energy prices depend on your contract, so we do not quote a cost per load that may not match your bill. The sum is simple: energy per cycle (from the data sheet) × cycles per day × your unit rate per kWh. The heating method matters: the 8 kg myPRO TE1120HP heat pump dryer draws around 0.9 kW, the 8 kg myPRO TE1120 condenser dryer 2.6 kW. The heat pump runs longer, so compare energy per kilo, not power alone. For gas dryers, set your gas unit rate against electricity; we send manufacturer consumption data on request.

Refurbished or new commercial tumble dryer?

Refurbished

Our refurbished stock is mostly Electrolux myPRO and myPROXL dryers of 8 and 12 kg, sizes that suit care homes, B&Bs and sports clubs. Each is inspected and tested in our workshop, with worn parts replaced, and priced well below the price of a new equivalent. Larger refurbished industrial dryers come in from time to time; ask for your size.

New

New makes sense for a heat pump model, current controls with cycle logging, or an industrial size not in refurbished stock. We supply the Electrolux Professional range for the UK, and we also supply Miele Professional dryers and washers.

Delivery to Great Britain, import and after-sales support

A sale to a UK business is an export, so no Dutch VAT is charged when properly documented. You need a GB EORI number and, as importer, pay UK import VAT and any duty; your customs broker confirms the rate. General information, not tax advice.

We have no UK service network. You get advice by phone and email in English, parts sent from the Netherlands and on-site visits by arrangement, quoted in advance. For quick call-outs a local commercial laundry engineer is usually faster; Electrolux and Miele dryers are widely used in the UK.

More from our UK range

Commercial tumble dryers: questions from UK buyers

Should I choose a vented, gas or heat pump commercial tumble dryer?

With an outside wall and a gas supply, gas vented is often quickest. Without gas, vented electric is the usual choice. Where ducting is impractical or energy use matters most, a heat pump dryer needs no duct but has longer cycles.

What size industrial tumble dryer do I need for my washers?

Usually at least as much dryer capacity as washer capacity, often more, depending on washer spin speed, linen type and staffed hours. Send us your washer models and daily volumes and we will suggest a size.

How much does a refurbished commercial tumble dryer save compared with new?

A refurbished dryer is priced well below the price of a new equivalent; the gap varies by model, age and condition. Your quote shows the machine, the work carried out and, on request, the current new model for comparison.

Can a gas tumble dryer from the Netherlands be used in the UK?

Yes, once set up for UK natural gas (G20) and your supply pressure. Installation and commissioning must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer qualified for commercial appliances.

How long can the exhaust duct on a vented dryer be?

It depends on the model, duct diameter and number of bends; the installation manual sets the limit. Long runs may need a larger duct or a booster fan.

What should a care home do about tumble dryer fire risk?

Include the laundry in your fire risk assessment, clean lint filters and ducts, let the cool-down phase finish and never leave hot linen piled up, especially linen with oil or cream residues.

Is there a warranty on refurbished dryers?

Warranty terms are agreed per machine and set out in the quote before you order.

Who services the dryer once it is installed in the UK?

We advise by phone and email in English, send parts from the Netherlands and visit by arrangement. We have no UK-based engineers, so for routine servicing many customers use a local commercial laundry engineer.
