Used and refurbished commercial washing machines for UK businesses

Technorette supplies used commercial washing machines and tumble dryers that have been refurbished in our own workshop in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. As an authorised Electrolux Professional dealer, we specialise in Electrolux washer extractors and dryers, and we also supply Miele Professional machines. Capacities run from 6 to 120 kg per machine, for care homes, hotels, laundries, sports clubs and industrial sites across Great Britain.

The same wash capacity as the original model, on average around 60% below the list price of a comparable new washer extractor and up to two-thirds on larger machines.* Every enquiry gets a machine-specific quote covering condition, connections, transport to your site and what happens after delivery.

* Compared with the net list price of a comparable current new model with the same load capacity (usually the next generation), September 2026. Applies to washer extractors; usually less for tumble dryers. Details in your quote.

Why buy a refurbished commercial washing machine?

An Electrolux Professional or Miele washer extractor is built for thousands of cycles. When one comes out of service because a site closes or a laundry upgrades, the frame, drum and motor often have years of work left. What wears out are the parts designed to be replaced: bearings, seals, door gaskets and belts.

Replace those parts and test the machine properly, and you get the build quality and wash capacity of the original model without paying new-machine prices. A machine already in stock can also be delivered sooner than a new unit on order; availability is confirmed per machine in the quote.

Built for heavy use

Commercial washer extractors are designed for daily heavy use, high spin speeds and programmable cycles. That is a different class from a reconditioned domestic machine.

Lower capital outlay

Buying refurbished frees up budget for installation or a matching tumble dryer. Savings depend on model and condition; see the FAQ.

What “refurbished” means at Technorette

“Used” and “refurbished” are not the same thing: a used machine may be sold as seen. At Technorette, a refurbished machine has been through our own workshop in Apeldoorn before it is offered for sale. The general process is:

  1. Technical inspection: we check the bearings, drum balance, drive system, electronics, heating elements and safety systems.
  2. Replacement of wear parts: parts that are worn or close to the end of their life are replaced.
  3. Mechanical overhaul: the machine is mechanically overhauled where the inspection shows it is needed.
  4. Electronic testing: controls, programmes and safety circuits are tested.
  5. Load test and ready for use: the machine is run under load before it leaves the workshop.

Not every machine needs the same work, so the quote for each machine sets out its known condition, the work carried out and the warranty terms that apply. Photos and further details are available on request.

Laundry for care homes, hotels and commercial laundries

Care homes

Care home laundries need machines that reliably reach thermal disinfection temperatures. Tell us your wash volumes and the programme requirements you work to (for example HTM 01-04 guidance) and we will advise on suitable machines. Your infection control procedures remain your responsibility.

Hotels and hospitality

Once volumes are steady, bringing bedding and towels in-house can make sense. A matched set of washer extractors, tumble dryers and an ironer keeps linen moving without an outside laundry service.

Laundries and industry

For high throughput, industrial washing machines of 60 kg and above keep the number of loads down. We quote for single replacements or a complete line.

Delivery to the UK, customs and import VAT

Machines travel by road and sea from Apeldoorn to your site in England, Scotland or Wales, with route and timing agreed per shipment. Northern Ireland follows different rules, so please mention it in your enquiry.

Since Brexit, a sale to a UK business is an export from the Netherlands. That means:

  • No Dutch VAT is charged on an export, provided the export is properly documented.
  • You, as the importer, are responsible for UK import VAT and any customs duty. VAT-registered businesses can often account for import VAT through postponed VAT accounting. Your accountant or customs agent can confirm whether that applies to you.
  • Customs duty depends on the commodity code and the origin of the machine. Your customs broker will confirm the rate on the UK Trade Tariff before shipment.
  • An EORI number starting with GB is needed to import goods into Great Britain.

We handle the export formalities on the Dutch side, and the quote states what is included, from transport to unloading. To quote, we need your postcode, door widths and access, and whether there is a forklift on site.

This information is general and does not constitute tax or customs advice. Rules and rates can change; always check with your accountant, customs agent or on GOV.UK.

Installation, connections and UK regulations

We go through the site requirements with you before you order, so there are no surprises on delivery day.

  • Electrical supply: most larger washer extractors and dryers run on a 3-phase 400 V supply; some smaller machines run on 230 V single phase. UK and Dutch supplies are both 50 Hz. The connection should be made by a qualified electrician in line with BS 7671.
  • Water supply: in the UK, commercial washing machines must be connected in line with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, or the Scottish Water Byelaws in Scotland, including suitable backflow protection. Compliance of the installation is the installer’s responsibility; check the details, including any WRAS-approved fittings needed, with your installer or water supplier.
  • Drainage and fixing: larger washer extractors need a suitable floor, drain and in some cases anchoring.
  • Tumble dryers: dryers need correct ducting for exhaust air. Gas-heated dryers must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
  • Marking and documentation: the machines we supply were CE marked by the manufacturer for the European market. Great Britain currently recognises CE marking for most machinery; check the latest GOV.UK guidance on UKCA and CE marking. We provide the manuals and documentation we have for each machine.

Installation can be carried out by your own contractor; on-site installation and commissioning by our engineers is quoted separately.

Service and parts after delivery

We would rather be straight with you: Technorette is based in Apeldoorn and does not have its own service network in the UK. What we do offer:

  • Advice by phone and email, in English, from engineers who know these machines.
  • Parts on request for the Electrolux Professional and Miele machines we sell, sent from the Netherlands.
  • On-site visits by arrangement, quoted in advance.

Our engineers are qualified to NEN 3140, the Dutch standard for safe electrical work. For routine maintenance and breakdowns, you may prefer a local commercial laundry engineer; Electrolux Professional and Miele machines are widely used in the UK.

Used commercial washing machines: frequently asked questions

Why buy a commercial washing machine from the Netherlands?

We refurbish machines in our own workshop and are an authorised Electrolux Professional dealer, so you buy directly from the business that carried out the work. You get detailed information on each individual machine and a quote that sets out transport, delivery terms and after-sales support. For UK buyers looking for a specific Electrolux or Miele model or capacity, our stock adds to what is available locally.

What does “refurbished” mean at Technorette?

A refurbished machine has been through our workshop in Apeldoorn. We inspect the bearings, drum balance, drive system, electronics, heating elements and safety systems, replace worn parts, carry out a mechanical overhaul where needed, test the electronics and run the machine under load. The exact work carried out varies by machine and is set out in your quote.

How much can I save compared with a new machine?

It depends on the machine and its age. In our current range, a refurbished washer extractor is on average around 60% below the net list price of a comparable current new model, and up to two-thirds on larger machines (September 2026); for tumble dryers the gap tends to be smaller. Comparable means the same load capacity, but usually the previous generation, so controls, spin performance and running costs can differ. Your quote sets the specific machine against the equivalent new model, so you can weigh price, specification and running costs for yourself.

Does a refurbished machine wash as well as a new one?

The wash capacity in kilograms is determined by the model, so a refurbished 20 kg washer extractor has the same drum capacity as a new unit of that model. After the workshop overhaul and load test, the machine should perform in line with its original specification. Newer models may offer additional features, such as updated controls or lower water and energy use. We will explain the differences so you can weigh them up.

Do refurbished machines come with a warranty?

Warranty terms are agreed per machine and set out in the quote, so you know exactly what is covered before you place an order.

How does delivery to the UK work, and who pays import VAT and duty?

We transport the machine by lorry from Apeldoorn to your site. As this is an export, no Dutch VAT is charged. As the importer, you pay UK import VAT and any customs duty and need a GB EORI number; VAT-registered businesses can often use postponed VAT accounting. Please check with your accountant or customs agent; this is not tax advice.

What connections does a commercial washing machine need?

Larger machines usually need a 3-phase 400 V supply, smaller ones 230 V single phase. You also need a water supply with backflow protection that complies with UK water fittings rules, a drain and a suitable floor. Gas tumble dryers must be connected by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We send the specifications before you order.

Can you install the machine for us?

You can have a local contractor carry out the installation, using the specifications we provide. On-site installation and commissioning by our own engineers can be discussed and is quoted separately, depending on location and scope.

What service can I expect after purchase?

We give advice by phone and email in English, can supply parts for the machines we sell on request, and can arrange on-site visits by agreement. We do not have our own service engineers based in the UK, so for routine maintenance you may prefer to use a local commercial laundry engineer.

Which brands and capacities do you supply?

We mainly supply Electrolux Professional washer extractors and tumble dryers, as an authorised dealer, and Miele Professional machines. Capacities range from 6 to 120 kg per machine, alongside barrier washers, ironers and folding machines. Stock changes regularly, so let us know the capacity you need.

Can I buy a care home washing machine from you?

Yes. Electrolux and Miele washer extractors are widely used in care settings. Tell us your daily volumes and the programme requirements you work to, and we will suggest suitable machines. Responsibility for your infection control procedures remains with your organisation.
